Split Settings

Choose page-by-page splitting, fixed-size chunks, or custom ranges and update the plan instantly.

Split method

Fixed-size chunks are selected.

2 pages each

For example, a 12-page PDF split by 5 pages creates parts with 5, 5, and 2 pages.

Each line or each | becomes one PDF. Example: 1-3 on one line, 4-6 on the next, then 7,8-10. The same page cannot be included in more than one output file.

Save

Save individual parts from the table or download every planned part in order.

When saving all files, your browser may ask for multiple downloads. Large documents may take longer.

What is PDF Splitter?

PDF Splitter is an online tool that separates one PDF document into several smaller PDF files. You can save every page as its own file, split the document into equal-size chunks, or create custom output files from the exact page ranges you type.

All processing happens in your browser. The PDF is not sent to an external server, and the tool creates new output files locally, which makes it useful for internal documents, drafts, personal records, and other files you prefer to keep off third-party upload services.

When this tool is useful

Use this tool when you need to send different chapters to different people, separate a long report into review packets, or keep only a few ranges from a larger PDF. The split plan table helps you confirm file counts and page ranges before you download anything.

  • Split a course handout or report into chapter-based PDF files
  • Separate a contract body from supporting attachments
  • Break a scanned document into 5-page review packets
  • Extract only the pages you need from a long manual
  • Prepare smaller section-based PDFs before compression or sharing

Main features

The tool combines a large page preview with a split plan table before you save the results. Instead of relying only on typed ranges, you can see which output file includes the current preview page, reducing mistakes in longer documents.

  • Split by every page, by fixed page count, or by custom ranges
  • Show the current page preview together with its output file status
  • Review page range, page count, and save buttons in a table
  • Warn when custom ranges omit or duplicate pages
  • Create output copies without modifying the original PDF
  • Process the document locally in the browser without external upload

How to use

Upload a PDF, choose the split method, review the generated plan, and then save individual parts or all files. For custom ranges, each line creates one output PDF, which makes it easy to define chapter-based or section-based files.

  1. Upload a PDF: Click or drag a file into the upload area.
  2. Choose a split method: Select every page, fixed pages, or custom ranges.
  3. Review the plan: Check file count and page ranges in the table.
  4. Inspect the preview: Confirm which output file includes the current page.
  5. Save files: Download one planned part or save all parts in order.

If you need to remove pages first, use PDF Page Deleter. If page order needs work before splitting, use PDF Page Reorder. To combine parts again later, use PDF Merger.

Notes for custom ranges

In custom range mode, each line becomes one PDF file. For example, entering 1-3, then 4-6, then 7,8-10 creates three output PDFs. The same page cannot appear in more than one output file, so create a separate copy if you need duplicate pages in another package.

Pages that are not included in a custom range are left out of the output files. If you want to split the whole document with no omissions, the every-page or fixed-page methods are simpler. Custom ranges work best when you only want selected chapters or sections.

After splitting, you can use PDF Compressor to reduce file size, PDF Page Number Adder to add page numbers, or PDF Watermark Generator for a sharing mark.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are uploaded PDFs stored on a server?

No. Uploaded PDFs are processed only in your browser and are not saved or transmitted to an external server.

Can I save every page as a separate PDF?

Yes. Choose the every-page split method to create one PDF file for each page.

How do I enter custom ranges?

Each line or each | creates one PDF. For example, 1-3, then 4-6, then 7,8-10 creates three PDFs.

What happens to pages missing from custom ranges?

Pages that are not included in custom ranges are not saved in the output PDFs. The screen shows a notice when pages are omitted.

Can password-protected PDFs be split?

Some encrypted PDFs cannot be opened because of browser security restrictions. If that happens, try again with an unlocked copy.
